FIGHT STRESS THE NATURAL WAY

Stress is your body’s signal to you that you’re under pressure. Stress affects all of us, and it comes from almost every facet of our lives; affecting us emotionally and physically. If it isn’t managed, it can accumulate over time and negatively affect our mental and physical health.

Making a few simple changes to your day-to-day life can make a huge impact. It’s not just that we’re overworked. It’s the fact that on top of it, we’re under-recovered.

Here are five natural remedies to help you conquer stress.

INTRODUCE CBD OIL INTO YOUR DAILY ROUTINE

Cannabis has only been legalised for medical research in recent years. We’ve only just begun to scratch the surface regarding its many health benefits and how CBD oil can be dispatched as an important stress management tool.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a form of cannabinoid, a chemical naturally contained in cannabis that has been shown to significantly relieve stress when taken regularly. CBD is non-psychoactive, which means while a person will experience relaxation, they won’t experience a “high” feeling. This is achieved by preventing your CB1 receptors’ overstimulation and enhancing your body’s natural production of endocannabinoids.

CBD not only helps to reduce anxiety, but it also helps to reduce stress, which leads to sounder sleep.

GET A FULL NIGHTS SLEEP

The relationship between sleep and mood is complicated; lack of sleep is a significant cause of stress, influencing energy levels, emotions, and motivation. Stress is also known to disturb sleep, causing thoughts to race and preventing us from relaxing enough to fall asleep.

Turning the room you sleep in into a peaceful space can help you sleep better throughout the night. Stopping any stimulating work and turning off electronics with blue light can help your brain signal that it’s time to wind down and prepare for sleep. A hot cup of tea, a warm bath, or a favourite book also never hurt.

MANAGE YOUR TIME

Stress can come from feeling overwhelmed by our to-do list; learning how to manage your time and prioritise can help you from feeling overburdened. One way to do this is to draw up a list of all that needs to be done in the day, highlighting the most important ones, enabling you to set reasonable standards of what can be accomplished in the day, giving you time to relax and unwind.

MINDFULNESS IN WORK

Learning how to be aware of the present moment allows us to let go of anxious thoughts and relax. There are several forms of mindfulness; it’s important to find the right one for you. Whether it’s yoga, meditation, breathing, or journaling, taking a moment to sit back and practise gratitude can help people suffering from stress.

Long working days, stress, and lack of sleep are all normal. A few small adjustments to your daily routine can help you manage them all and improve your quality of life.

Apps such as CALM and Headspace can really help here too.

SOFT TISSUE HEALTH

Understanding where tension lies in your body and knowing how to relieve aches and pains is also beneficial when building your recovery routine. Percussive therapy is the rapid and repetitive application of pressure perpendicular to the body. The Theragun delivers percussive therapy and is built on the science of amplitude, frequency and torque. The combination of these three core principles combine together as a trio, to relieve pain, improve movement, and create an effective mechanism for recovery. Some of the other benefits include improving sleep, increased blood flow and muscle oxygen delivery, and improving the health and function of the soft tissues. Finally, when used pre-exercise percussive therapy can reduce the delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) experienced post-exercise and ALSO decrease the sensitivity to DOMS once you have it.
